The majority of Americans are embracing AI, but their trust in its capabilities is a different story.

A revealing study by iHeartMedia uncovers a fascinating paradox: while 70% of Americans surveyed are utilizing AI and praising its efficiency, a staggering 75% draw the line when it comes to its involvement in their media and entertainment. This statistic is a real eye-opener!

But here's where it gets controversial: despite the widespread adoption, two-thirds of respondents fear job losses due to AI, with Gen Z and lower-income individuals being particularly anxious. And if that wasn't enough, an equal number believe AI could potentially wage war against humans. These findings are sure to spark debates!

Interestingly, iHeartMedia's previous research showed that over half of consumers were unaware of AI a few years ago. Now, with increased usage, a lingering distrust remains, even among those integrating AI into their daily routines.

"Although 70% of Americans are using AI, their sentiments don't differ significantly from those who aren't," explains Lainie Fertick, iHeartMedia's Insights president. She adds, "After accounting for demographic factors, levels of distrust and concerns about AI's potential threat remain consistent across users and non-users."

Fertick highlights an important nuance: "While many acknowledge using AI, there's a persistent desire for it to serve as a human tool rather than a replacement." This perspective is crucial to understanding the complex relationship between AI adoption and trust.

This survey, iHeartMedia's third annual consumer behavior study, was conducted by Critical Mass Media with a sample of 2,000 U.S. adults. The findings were shared with marketers at the company's AudioCon event, aiming to educate on-air talent about AI and navigate the delicate balance between job displacement and AI's benefits.

"Most consumers are ambivalent about AI, and we want our hosts to reflect and discuss this sentiment," Fertick stated. "We want to prepare consumers for the likelihood of AI integration in their jobs and the increasing presence of AI in the apps and media they engage with."

The survey also revealed deep divisions among consumers on various topics, including the government's COVID-19 response, the #MeToo movement, and the death of Charlie Kirk. Surprisingly, political affiliation was not the primary factor influencing these opinions. Instead, the media content they were exposed to algorithmically played a more significant role.

And this is the part most people miss: the one issue that unifies Americans is the belief that the Epstein files are part of a cover-up, with 78% agreeing and only 22% thinking otherwise.
